Throwback Thursday: Poland

Thursday, November 27, 2014

Time goes by, and only memories stay. Pictures are always a good way of remembering the beautiful moments in life. Let's move back in time to thousand ten where I moved to Poland for a month.
July 2010, I finally arrived in Poland after traveling all day. I was eighteen by then and I had never traveled alone before. My first time in a plane to a country I didn't even speak the language of. I arrived and my mentor told me I was gonna live with roommates in a small flat.(My flat was next to the pub on this picture) My roomie was from Litvania. The other were all boys from Turkey, Latvia & Macedonië. They were really awesome. Their were a lot of other volunteers in the village too. They all lived in flats, just like I did. From a spoiled teenager in Belgium, I suddenly become an adult lady. I cooked my own food, had to clean the flat, had to think about money spending and all.
I worked from monday till friday. I mostly started around 8 in the morning til 2 in the afternoon. I was part of a summer camp for poor children. They tried to teach me some polish words and I tried to learn them things too. We did some really great activity's with the children, such as swimming, forest walks, hiking, dancing or playing games inside the school building. One girl told me she didn't want me to go back home and to be honest I didn't wanna come back either.
During my free time I traveled around to places such as Warsaw and Wroclaw. The picture above is one of my favorites. Someone took the picture at one of our bonfires at night. After summer camp or the other's project, all of the foreign volunteers came together. The girl you see laying onder my big but became my best friend. We're the same age. She is the best Danish friend I could wish for. Today we're still very good friends. The boy was our Polish crush. (He is pretty cute ha?)

I really can't believe it's already 4 years ago since I did my first foreign voluntary job. I'm still thankful for the chance I got by then and all the friends I met. Without a doubt Poland was one of the happiest months in my life. I grew up fast by the experience of living alone in a foreign country. If you ever get the chance to work in another country, take it with both hands. Poland wasn't my favorite country by then, but now I love every single thing about it. The language (which I can't speak after a month), the people, the culture, the food and the nature. And I as a person changed so much. I became open minded to the world. I learned that you don't need luxury.

INSTA #TAGGED

Sunday, November 23, 2014

First: I'm changing my layout once again but I'm not near perfection yet, so excuse me for the changes or faults you might see during your time on my blog.

I came by a cool tag at Elisse's blog. I immediately decided to fill in the tag myself. I am pretty addicted to my iPhone, so Instagram is a part of my hipster life.

What's your Instagram name and why?
My name is The mind of an exchange, the same as my blog. It's easier to find me on Instagram and the names has a connection with my blog. Previous I used my name Melissajore. I'm an exchange student or I was and my blog is all about the things I do or like. So that explains the name.

Left: The first one ( 2years ago) Right: The last one

How many photos do you post on average?
I would dare to say that I post a picture weekly. Some weeks I don't post anything. Other weeks I might upload a picture every day. It depends on how awesome my life is. :)

Instagram facts
I posted 240 things in 2 years. 432 people are following me. JEEJ! and I'm following 440 lucky ones. I received 2609 likes in total and 307 comments.

Most liked?
A while ago I shared this picture of me and my best friend 4 years ago. She had her birthday in October so I wished her a happy birthday with this throwback. The picture got the most likes.
The picture right just got one like less than the winner.

Your own personal favorite?
Waking up with this amazing view. Yes I do miss Turkey. No stress, just relaxing.

What apps do you use in combination with Instagram?
Ah! Secrets, nope like most of the humans I use VSCO cam since it's the best. I also use studio + to make collages or to decorate them with text.

What filter do you use the most?
Since I have extern apps to edit my pictures I do not use any filters anymore. In the past I used the X-PRO a lot and Valencia also became one my most used ones.

Left: X-PRO right: Valencia

Most used hashtag?
Ha, good question. I don't think I have a most used hashtag. I always use the ones who are fitting the picture I use. I do use lots of silly ones like #becauseIcan.

Which celebrities are you following?
Goh, I follow @Kalle14, @Mikainstagram, @emwatson@wearesheppard
I guess that's all since I mostly use Instagram to follow friends or family.

Which animals do you follow?
Ha! only one and that's Olive, the dog with a blog. I never came by any others to follow.

Do you have a lot of family on Instagram?
I even don't have a big family so I guess the answer is no. My younger sister is using it. And since I don't have any cousins. I think the answers remains no.

This picture is taken before my sister left to Turkey for a month. We spent some time and we took an overload on selfies before her leaving. I also figured I used a very weird hashtag here.  #wenneedaginger I have no idea what I wanted to write. :)

I really enjoyed filling in this tag, so if you do too. Let me know. See you all very soon!  Oh leave your account here! :)

5 of my book boyfriends

Wednesday, November 05, 2014

Books have different characters. Some make us angry, irritate us, or we fall for them. Tiffany from the Endless Bliss blog shared her 7 book boyfriends. Thanks to her this post is created. Only I'll share 5 of my book boyfriends. Here we go.

5. Augustus Waters
The fault in our stars by John Green
How can you not fall for him? Charming, sweet and always saying the right words. Every girl should have an Augustus in her life. He has the power to make every girl feel special.

4. James Frey
A Million Little Pieces by James Frey
This character made me fall in love with him because he had the power to get clean and he was a hero to the girl in the same institute. Sometimes bad boys can turn good. And that's without a doubt the case in the life of James Frey. From drug user to cute lover. Yes He is one my crushes!

3. Devin Jones
Joyland by Stephen King
A little hero in a student boy. Heroes are always my favorite characters. He also has some things in common with me. Like taking a year off to live your dreams. (Plans that might come true) and he is friendly and loving character. I can't really say why I like him but if you read the book you might understand why is on my book boyfriends list.

2. Harry Potter
Harry Potter by JK.Rowling
I'm undoubtedly for Harry himself. The boy with the courage that always chooses the good.Throughout the story, he is a fighter, and so that might suit me perfectly. Though I also thought of George, My Harry Potter crush is Harry himself.

1. Henry Detamble
The Time Traveler's wife by Audrey Niffenegger
Oh Henry, Traveling trough time and falling in love with a girl. Yes I felt in love with his character more than once. He is cute, friendly and he has a sense of romantic. I wouldn't mind him not being there whenever I need him. So yes I would love to be the Time Traveler's wife :)

And, what about you? Who are your book boyfriends/ girlfriends?

This is Halloween

Saturday, November 01, 2014

Halloween has always been my favorite time of the year. Pumpkins, dressing up, pumpkin pie, candy and creepy movies. Hooraay. When I was a high school student my dad always made a ghost house. People loved our Halloween traditions. This year we kept it low key, but we still had loads of fun.
